Wakeboard Tricks You Should Try
By | July 19, 2010
So do you have a mind to be the hottest rider around? Some wakeboarders just like to ride the little swells and not take any chances, while others like more of a challenge.
Most serious wakeboarders though have the vision of being able to take the challenging route. It takes a lot of time, practice, and patience to perform wakeboard tricks, so you better get started if you haven’t already!
There are lots of fantastic and exhilarating tricks just waiting for you: The slides, the spins, the blinds, the inverts, the loops, and more. But to begin with, you should probably stick with the surface tricks while you’re still learning to maintain your balance as well as control your board and navigation.
You are going to make a great many mistakes as you embark on your wakeboarding journey, but you must be patient with yourself while you’re learning surface tricks. These include the backside butterslide, backside butterslide 180, tumble turn, surf carve, surface 360, surface 180, powerslide, potato peelers, and perez.
But maybe you’ve got a good dose of confidence or experience and you want to get some air. Well, you could always try some board grabs and some of the simple rotational wakeboard tricks. Some wakeboarding tricks include progressive toeside edge, progressive heelside edge, heelside frontside, method grab, ollie backside, butterslides, 180s, and switching. But you should only try these out once you feel comfortable maintaining balance and control.
Once you have some of the simple grabs and rotational tricks down, you can attempt at something a little more complicated. Examples of wakeboard tricks that intermediate riders should think about trying include the backroll, heelside off-axis 360, heelside 540, toeside frontside 540, indy backside 180 (blind), tantrum, and roll to revert.
As for advanced riders, well, as you might expect, they can do almost anything they set their minds to. Some of the most notorious wakeboard tricks for progressed riders include more difficult moves such as complicated inverts and spins. These tricks are often mingled with cool grabs.
If you qualify as an advanced rider, you ought to try these on for size: Wrapped KGB, crow mobe, front flip, tantrum to blind, whirlybird, elephant, and heelside mobe.
Don’t feel like you must stick with what other riders came up with. As soon as you start feeling confident and comfortable with these tricks, you’re ready to advance to your next personal level.
