How to Stay Within Your Budget by Making Homemade Wedding Favors

By | February 2, 2010

Even if you have to have a wedding on a budget, it doesn’t need to LOOK like one. No one has to know that you cut corners. One thing that will evade scrutiny will be well-done homemade wedding favors.

At most weddings, it’s expected that guests will have something to leave with. A lot of times it’s something that can be kept as a token to remember this day. It’s not as hard as you think to make them by hand. Also, you have the option of making something useful for each guest

Start with a trip to a large craft store. Most of these places have an aisle or two dedicated to wedding things, including favors. You might get some really good ideas just by browsing through these aisles. To make your own homemade wedding favors, here are some ideas to get you started.

Candles - Buy boxes of rose-shaped floating candles in white. Buy some ribbons that match the colors of your wedding and tie them in a bow around the candles. Add a faux flower. Attach a tag thanking your guests for the gift of their presence.

Potpourri - Look for some nice, small containers that will complement the colors and theme of your wedding. Buy potpourri in large bags, and fill each container with some.

Photos and frames - Often, you can find large amounts of small, cheap wooden frames (wallet-sized, 3×5, or 4×6). You can decorate these frames with paint, or even dress them up with lace, beads, ribbons, fake flowers, and other craft items. You can put a picture of you and your fiance in the frames.

Close friends and family may keep that photo in the frame when they get home, while more distantly related guests can choose to replace the photo with one of their own.

When it comes to homemade wedding favors, these are just a few ideas out of hundreds to start with. If the craft store doesn’t spark just the right idea, spend some time on the internet, where you’ll find hundreds of ideas waiting for you.
