Basement Designs - The Perfect Retro Basement Designs

By | February 5, 2010

Are you thinking about updating your basement? Been exploring different basement designs? Think about going retro. Even if the basement seems like a very dark and dingy place right now, with the right retro design, you can make it a great place to hang out in. It doesn’t matter what your budget is. In all likelihood, you’ll be able to come up with exactly what you need to create the perfect retro haven in your basement.

Add Some Great Lighting

You can’t have a dark basement if you want to make it livable. It might work if your theme is Goth or Halloween, but we’re aiming for a retro design here. Consider going with some nice lava lamps or other retro themed lighting. Consider installing a disco ball. As light sources go, you can’t get much more retro than that. Just be sure you install lots of bright lights, because basements have a tendency to be very dark.

Go with Retro Window Coverings

It is also important that you come up with beautiful retro window coverings for your retro basement designs as well. Look around and you are sure to find plenty of patterns that will go great with a retro theme. You can either purchase your curtains, or if you are feeling really creative, you may even want to get the material and make the curtains for the windows on your own.

Look for Pieces to Pull it Together

We’ve got the lights, we’ve got the curtains, and now we just need a few extra touches to pull it all together. Consider throwing in some retro pillows, wall art, and similarly retro decorations that will emphasize your chosen theme throughout the whole basement.

A retro theme in your basement can definitely be a fun theme to incorporate. So if you’re looking for a snazzy way to jazz up your basement designs, consider giving it a retro facelift.
